Chester (Chet) Clark

I was so sorry to hear about Rex passing.

Rex and I grew up together and became lifelong friends. He called me “Klach”, I called him Ford.We both shared the bug for early muscle cars. Cruising downtown Butler, racing up North Main St hill, racing our Corvettes down 422, he and I chasing the #$%&* guys who stole his 64 Chevy and wrecked it in Pittsburgh.

Rex and our friend Tim got our first real summer jobs in Cape Cod. Rex and Tim working at a beach motel, and me down the street at a marina. Somewhere I have a film of the 3 of us diving off a Bass River Bridge. We ran around the Cape in our 66 Mustang convertible and had the time of our lives. The Summer of 69 will never be forgotten…..

In the 70s we all went in different directions. Rex to Ohio, me to New England and Tim to North Carolina. We all worked to stay in touch, but with the distances between us, it was not as easy as we would have liked. Thanks to the internet and texting we were able to keep our friendship going and Rex and I were able to get together a few times when I moved back to Butler a few years ago.

This past November Rex, Tim and I were able to get together and they stayed over at my house. It was the first time in many, many years that the 3 of us were together. We had such a good time reminiscing about the “good ole days” and talking about what was going on in our lives today.

I had no way of knowing it was the last time I would see or talk to Rex. Just a month later I got the call. I am just so grateful that the 3 of us had that day together. It brought into focus that lifelong friends share memories that will never fade.

Rex…I will miss you and think of you often. Thank you for the many years of friendship and memories buddy....
